Training Needs Analysis for Future Training Programmes

NMBI logo

The purpose or mission of NMBI is to act in the public interest by ensuring that registered nurses and registered midwives are competent and act in an ethical manner.

Performance as a professional regulator is defined in terms of outcomes. It can be either at a basic level meaning that only the basic requirements are met, or it can be at the “gold standard” level meaning the regulator is far exceeding the basic requirements and its regulatory outcomes are achieved.  A key performance criterion applied in an assessment of regulatory bodies’ performance is whether the individual members of Boards and Committees have received appropriate training. Appropriate training is a key tool in ensuring that all members have the knowledge and skills they require to meet the “gold standard” level of performance.

NMBI is committed to supporting you in your role as a regulator. The provision of proper training and education for all individuals working with NMBI is a part of this commitment.  Proper training involves the identification of Board, PPC and FTPC members’ current knowledge, skill set, strengths and weaknesses. This involves identifying any gaps in members’ knowledge, skills set or any weaknesses in performance and providing training solutions to ensure they are competent and acting in the public interest.

La Touche Training has been asked to conduct a training needs analysis in order to make recommendations to NMBI as to the training needs and solutions for those individuals involved in NMBI’s complaints process.

The best way to provide effective training solutions that are fit for purpose is to seek input from those who are required to perform and achieve outcomes. This survey is designed to hear from you in terms of where you are at currently in your role in NMBI together with what you need to support you in improving your performance as a regulator.

The more honest, detailed and specific you can be in your response, the more we can develop a training plan to ensure NMBI meets the “gold standard” performance level in the future. This is what everyone in NMBI is committed to and is what this survey is all about.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a very important part of this process. We acknowledge that the President, Vice-President, Chairs and Vice-Chairs will be identified through their response to the survey. It is a matter of personal choice as to whether other members wish to disclose their name in their response. We are encouraging you to do so. Your individual experience is important and your response to the questions being asked is of enormous value to us. We wish to hear from all of you as individual experiences differ. We assure you that the only individuals who will see your response to the survey will be Ms. Caroline Conroy, Solicitor and Senior Trainer of La Touche Training and one administrator working on this project with La Touche Training.

The final report with recommendations will be issued to NMBI. It will not identify individual’s responses to the survey. Your response is for La Touche Training only. It will  assist in identifying your personal training needs which will be factored in to the future training programme.

You may be the President/Chair or Vice-President/Vice-Chair of the Board or a Committee.

To ensure the training needs analysis is effective and works for you, it is important you complete all relevant sections of this survey as comprehensively as possible. Accordingly, we ask that you please DO give is some time and thought. It will assist if all areas are completed fully. To assist you, please note the guidance set out below BEFORE you start.

You don’t need to complete it in one go. Take your time but please do give it time as your response may impact the quality of training and support you will receive in the future.

The questions identify very specific areas and matters you are required to deal with in your role. We ask that you give each question some thought as they are ALL important. It will help if you pause before submitting your final response. Have a second look, maybe think again about what you are saying – is that really what you think, do you want to say more or something else that could improve the quality of the training you receive in the future?

Your answers will contribute greatly to the training plan for the next few years. Your experience, thoughts and feedback are key to making training work for you and others which will in turn fulfil your duty to act in the public interest.
